Try your hand at home smoking
Top chef Mark Hix smokes his own food and so too should you if you want to be part of the real foodie set. Not only is it more fun but it means you can smoke so much more than just bacon or fish, including cheese, steak and salt. It's not as difficult as it sounds, either. There are plenty of home smoking kits on the market but you could easily make your own with an old saucepan, some racking and, importantly, some wood to burn.
