Heckfield Place, Hampshire
Skye Gyngell, former head chef at the Michelin-starred restaurant Petersham Nurseries, will take the role of culinary director at country house hotel Heckfield Place when it opens in March next year. The hotel will have three dining rooms; The Beckwith, a 30-cover intimate eating space; The Restaurant, a more casual offer; and The Stables, where four dishes will be available daily alongside locally produced ciders and beers.

The Square Bar and Restaurant, Harrogate
Husband-and-wife team Darren and Debbie Gladman will open their new restaurant and bar in Harrogate this October. Darren Gladman, a former head chef at stylish Rudding Park Hotel in Harrogate, will serve a menu focusing on modern British dishes that use seasonal Yorkshire produce.

A large section of the UK public worry about how to put the next meal on the table every day. You are talking about spending their weeks budget on one meal.

Simply prepared and well cooked food is what is now needed in the restaurant market. Poncey 'celebrity' or, more likely, would-be 'celebrity' chefs churning out pretentious, over-priced dishes (which curiously always seem to slavishly follow a current 'fashion') should, rightly, now be worried as the amount which most customers are willing, or able, to spend is in decline. Moreover, sourcing ingredients which are available locally at sensible prices should be encouraged as we have producers of some of the finest foods in the World on our doorstep. These producers will also welcome an alternative to enslavement by greedy supermarket cartels.

Restaurant food is for celebrities now who are  watching their figures, as the fashion dictates..... a measly piece of grouse breast or some such fare which would not keep a cat alive.  How people can eat such rubbish is beyond me. All the chefs seem to cook is offal or similar food which the butcher  throws away,  dressed up to look apetising, whch it isn't. The Hairy bikers cook 'real food' which most of us can afford, not some poncy overpriced  'fashion food'.  I do not think there is a need for more  restaurants  as all it does is give the fashion 'foodies 'something to talk about. In any case who but wealthy people can afford it?

Just another venue to seperate them for us, why pay £150 per head for lunch,because they can( I know no prices have been listed) But its just another way of giving these people a false sense of importance and self worth.Nice to see their reaction when at the end of service, all the staff sit down and have exactly the same menu for free!, he he he
