Flat Iron, London
Taking up residency above the Owl & Pussycat pub in Shoreditch, Flat Iron aims to sell high quality steak at a fraction of the cost of its big London steakhouse rivals. As the name suggests, the flat iron will be the only cut of beef on offer, alongside beef dripping chips and cocktails. A six-week stint is planned, although owner Charlie Carroll believes it could run for longer in Shoreditch before securing a more permanent location.

Mash, Soho, London
An American steakhouse from Denmark sounds like an unlikely launch for central London, but the team behind Mash believe they have a winning formula. Hailing from Copenhagen, the restaurant's approach is to offer the best of an American steakhouse twinned with the more informal Danish take on eating and drinking. Let's see if they can pull it off.

A large section of the UK public worry about how to put the next meal on the table every day. You are talking about spending their weeks budget on one meal.

Simply prepared and well cooked food is what is now needed in the restaurant market. Poncey 'celebrity' or, more likely, would-be 'celebrity' chefs churning out pretentious, over-priced dishes (which curiously always seem to slavishly follow a current 'fashion') should, rightly, now be worried as the amount which most customers are willing, or able, to spend is in decline. Moreover, sourcing ingredients which are available locally at sensible prices should be encouraged as we have producers of some of the finest foods in the World on our doorstep. These producers will also welcome an alternative to enslavement by greedy supermarket cartels.

Restaurant food is for celebrities now who are  watching their figures, as the fashion dictates..... a measly piece of grouse breast or some such fare which would not keep a cat alive.  How people can eat such rubbish is beyond me. All the chefs seem to cook is offal or similar food which the butcher  throws away,  dressed up to look apetising, whch it isn't. The Hairy bikers cook 'real food' which most of us can afford, not some poncy overpriced  'fashion food'.  I do not think there is a need for more  restaurants  as all it does is give the fashion 'foodies 'something to talk about. In any case who but wealthy people can afford it?

Just another venue to seperate them for us, why pay £150 per head for lunch,because they can( I know no prices have been listed) But its just another way of giving these people a false sense of importance and self worth.Nice to see their reaction when at the end of service, all the staff sit down and have exactly the same menu for free!, he he he
